Description

“Kalnapilis” Grand Select is a light camp with a light and rich taste. In its recipe is a mix of hop seeds of Sorts and Brewers Gold, providing a dense long-lasting foam and a special, mature flavor. Hops are added at the very end of cooking, which preserves all its flavoring nuances. The malt in this beer is 100% barley, giving it characteristic soft tones and amber color.

Kalnapilis is a Lithuanian brewery located in Panevezys. It is considered one of the largest producers in Lithuania, accounting for 25% of the country’s beer market. Together with the Vilnius brewery Tauras, it is part of the Kalnapilio-Tauro Grupe, owned by the Danish corporation Royal Unibrew.

The history of the Kalnapilis brewery began in 1902, when a German brewer, Albert Voigt, built a plant on a hill. The plant was named Bergshlossen, which in German means “a small castle on the mountain.” In 1935 the brewery became a joint stock company, and its German name was translated into Lithuanian and began to sound like Kalnapilis. In 1940 it was nationalized. Production has greatly decreased, as most of the workers went to war.

In 1944, the Nazi troops destroyed the Panevys power plant and Kalnapilis remained without electricity. The staff personally assembled the gasoline engine and the production continued. Thanks to this, Kalnapilis became the only brewery in Lithuania, which has never stopped brewing beer in its history.

In 1970 a new malt house opened in Panevezys, producing raw materials exclusively for Kalnapilis. After 20 years, Lithuania gained independence, and the brewery became state property. In 1992, it became private property owned by its shareholders. In 1997, the company renewed its image and took first place in the country’s beer market. She also released the first Lithuanian TV commercial of a foam drink.

In the new millennium, Kalnapilis entered with the title of the most modern brewery in the Baltic region, as well as the first, which established the production of Ice beer in transparent bottles of 0.33 liters. In 2001, it became the property of Royal Unibrew Corporation. In 2012, another unique product was released from Kalnapilis – beer in a tin can, which completely removes the top of the lid. After 2 years, the brewery for the first time in its history launched a wheat beer, which became White Select. Now Kalnapilis regularly replenishes its assortment with new varieties and unusual mixes.
