Description
Avignonesi, “Da-Di” Rosso Biologico – organic red dry wine made from selected Sangiovese grapes from the best vineyards of the estate. 2019 was a warm and not dry year in Tuscany, with an excellent harvest in terms of quantity and quality. The crop was harvested by hand from September 16 to October 7. Da Di is vinified in 11 terracotta vessels made in Tuscany, 6 of which were produced by Artenova in Impruneta and 5 by Laboratorio San Rocco in Torrita di Siena using clay from Mount Amiata. A third of the grapes are vinified in whole bunches, the rest is separated from the ridges, but not crushed. Fermentation takes place using local yeast, and the cap of the pulp is broken daily. Maceration takes up to 1 month. After 3 months, wines from different amphorae are mixed and the finished wine is again poured into the same vessels for additional aging for 2 months. In total, 12,720 bottles of Da-Di Rosso Biologico were produced in 2019.
The history of the Wine House Avignonesi began in the second half of the 16th century, when the most beautiful Palazzo Avignonesi in Montepulciano was built according to the drawings of the architect Jacopo Barozzi. In its cellars were kept barrels of wine “Vino Nobile” belonging to the Avignonesi family. “Quality is created by people: it is improved through experience, dream and dedication” – these words are the philosophy of the Avignonesi Wine House, which has centuries of experience behind its shoulders and has made its dream come true – the production of high-quality wines that glorify their region.
Several centuries later, in 1974, the company underwent significant changes – the management of the winery passed to the three Falvo brothers, thanks to whom Avignonesi became the strongest player in the Italian wine market, and also became one of the largest landowners in the region with more than 250 hectares of estates, of which 225 hectares were given over to vineyards.
The main activity of Avignones i is focused on the production of powerful red wines “Vino Nobile”, which brought fame to the wine house. Avignonesi also produces a small amount of dessert wine “Vin Santo” – one of the best in its class. In addition to the wines traditional for the Montalcino region, the company produces Super Tuscan wines: “Desiderio” from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, “50 & 50” from Sangiovese and Merlot, as well as white wine “Il Marzocco” from Chardonnay. Avignonesi also produces excellent grappa and “Extra Vergin” olive oil, harvested from their own olive groves.
