Description
Friesland, “Broer & Suster” Shiraz-Grenache is a clever blend that combines the masculine strength and fullness of Shiraz with the feminine elegance and fruit profile of Grenache, celebrating the brothers and sisters who make a great wine together. The Shiraz used to make the wine comes from two vineyards located on well-drained soils of decomposed Tafelberg sandstone. The Grenache is grown in the Polkadrai hills, where the soils are mainly sandy, with some clay. The grapes are hand-picked. After fermenting each variety separately in open concrete fermenters, the wine is aged in French and American oak barrels for 12 months. The wine has a 10-year ageing potential.
The label of the Friesland terroir wines features a landscape with a windmill, which is linked to the memories of De Bruijn’s late father, Cosey, who grew up in Sutherland, the coldest town and the capital of astronomical observations in the Karoo. The windmill on the Friesland farm symbolises Cosey’s roots.
