Angelo Gaja acquired here one of the best vineyards in 1988, with a total area of 30 hectares and named it Sperss. On the Piedmontese dialect sperss means “nostalgia.” Gaia always dreamed of producing Barolo grapes from its own vineyards, but for a long time they did not succeed, so the wine gets its name: Sperss – nostalgia” for Barolo. Creating a wine is as follows. After harvesting the berries are placed in stainless steel tanks to undergo fermentation on the skins. The process takes about 3 weeks at a constant temperature control. The resulting product was poured into barriques where it is aged 12 months, then the wine is placed in large oak barrels for another 1 year for further aging.

Angelo has repeatedly visited France and inspired by modern and traditional techniques of French wine makers began to use the experience gained in the production of their own wines. His magnetism, charm and poetic reflections on the nature of the wine Angelo Gaja make one of the most respected and beloved figures in the wine industry in Italy.
