Description
“Romitorio di Santedame” – a truly unique red wine produced only during the best vintages. It belongs to the category Supertuscan wines and is a kind of symbol of the importance that the company attaches Ruffino revival and development of indigenous Tuscan varieties. The peculiarity of this wine is that the grapes used for its preparation, has unique characteristics that can not be made in some other place. The wine is made from the best grapes varieties Colorino (60%) and Merlot (40%) from the vineyard “Romitorio di Santedame” in the estate Santedame, located near the village of Castellina in Chianti (Siena). Vines, planted at the beginning of this century, growing at an altitude of 310-455 meters above sea level on the clay-poor sandy soil. The prevailing climate in this region contributes to the outstanding ripening of grapes. In 2006, berry picking Merlot beginning of the end of September and mid-October were harvested Colorino. Company “Ruffino” began its history in 1877, when the hereditary Tuscan winemakers and great patriots of their native land, cousins Hilario and Leopoldo Ruffino winery founded in the nearby town of Pontassieve to Florence.
